Using Your Electronic Cigarette like a Tobacco Cigarette

It’s time for a tip!

Have you switched from tobacco to electronic and find that you are missing something?  Not quite sure what it is?

There has been some talk floating around the forums that once you leave tobacco cigarettes, it isn’t only the nicotine that smokers miss, but the action, the weight of smoke in the lungs, and some of the other additives found in cigarettes.  Today, we are going to give you a tip on how to use your electronic cigarette like a tobacco cigarette.

One of the issues with vapor is that it does not carry the same weight as smoke from tobacco.  As there is no tar, when it is inhaled, the lungs almost feel as if they are begging to work harder, leaving for some, an unsatisfied feeling.

INSTEAD of using your electronic cigarette as a puffer, use it as a cigarette.  Each time you have the desire for a tobacco cigarette, go to your favorite smoking spot.  Take three drops of e-liquid and add it to your cartridge.  Then, get your e-cig going by taking 3-4 quick hard puffs.  You should be able to get 7-10 hard core drags off of your electronic ciggy after that.  They will be heavy in vapor.  You will find that after a few days of doing this, your electronic cigarette becomes more like what your cigarettes were to you and less of a “puffer crutch” because lets face it, you didn’t puff on your cigs all day, you smoked them.  And for some of us, we smoked them hard.

Other things to remember:  Always make sure your battery is charged and that your atomizer is working.  If you notice that you are puffing and you are not getting any vapor, check your battery.  If it isn’t the battery and your cartridge is full, it is probably your atomizer. Happy esmoking!

The Electronic Cigarette as a Homeopathic Drug

Currently, the electronic cigarette remains unclassified.  The WHO (World Health Organization) has said on several occasions that the “electronic cigarette should not be marketed as a smoking cessation device”.  And all who use it know that it is not a tobacco cigarette.  So where should it fall?

The device itself, consisting of a battery and an atomizer is a vaporizer.  As far as we can tell, vaporizers are legal and even though attempts have been made to ban vaporizers for alcohol and marijuana consumption, a very slim few have ever passed.  All information we found shows that banning such items would not hinder the war on drugs and would eliminate consumption avenues for legal products.  It’s not the pipe, it’s what is in the pipe. And our pipes, vaporizers, smoking machines, have nicotine liquid in them.

In my research this morning, I think I may have found where the e-cigarette could potentially fit. My suggestion is that we look into the rules and regulations of becoming a Homeopathic or Allopathic drug.

Why? The Homeopathic drugs are submitted to HPCUS, The Homœopathic Pharmacopœia of the United States. Now, with NICOWater, they were contacted by the FDA and re-forumulated their nicotine concentration to be below 4 mg per dose which drops them into the homeopathic category. Further testing will need to be done on the various nicotine levels of ELiquid to determine if it falls under 4 mg per dose. And technically, as the no nicotine has no nicotine, does it need to be regulated at all?

With homeopathic drugs, you present to HPCUS as you would to the FDA, but you need two clinical trials and samples. (Of which we will be able to provide with the Auckland study and another doctor who has been working on his own tests). The process is shorter and faster.

And as long as you are under 4 mg, you can still be considered a homeopathic drug instead of an NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy). Under homeopathic, you can make claims such as: Healthier Alternative. Under homeopathic you cannot make claims that it is a cessation device.

Allopathic drugs go through the FDA, but don’t seem to be held to the same restrictive process as an NRT/NDP.  They are a bit more cumbersome to achieve because we will have to go through the FDA.  With the peanut butter issues they are having right now, it could take a minimum of 5-10 years, just to hit someones desk.

I thought I would put this out there so others could help me on my lead. We all talk of where does the e-cig fit. Either way, we at Instead DO NOT feeling the e-cigarette should be lumped into the NRT/NDP category and we don’t want to be lumped into the tobacco category because we are not tobacco.  Tomatoes, eggplant and even chiles are all a part of the nightshade family, the group of plants that contain nicotine.  Are they tobacco?

Here is another interesting note: FDA doesn’t have control of tobacco (as of the date of the posting), however, their formula looks kind of like this – “Device” = tobacco = nicotine-delivery device but tobacco does not = class of device.

Dosing info is important. The industry will have to come up with something that can be agreed upon in order to move forward with any regulation in any form.

So, originally, we went with the “standard” dose per tobacco cigarette as put forth by the tobacco industry AND our nicotine liquid manufacturer.  They both say that a dose is approximately 14 puffs from a tobacco cigarette.  Since we know that we must pacify the anti-smoking campaign, we have decided to use their counts for puffs per dose.  They can hardly argue against their own determinations.  Ignoring puff counts: another shortcoming of the Federal Trade Commission cigarette testing programme — Kozlowski et al. 17 (1): i6 — Tobacco Control.

So what happens if the electronic cigarette is approved by HPCUS to be a homeopathic drug?  Then the electronic cigarette will be able to be sold, as it is now:  Over the counter without a prescription.  It is a “smoking alternative”.  It is not a smoking cessation device and therefore, still cannot be marketed as such.  It is simply an option for smokers who want to smoke something.

Now, there is an argument that smoking an electronic cigarette is not “smoking” but “vaping”.  So lets look at the words and what they really mean.

Vaping comes from vap – That which is vapid, insipid, or lifeless; especially, the lifeless part of liquor or wine.  If a vaporizer turns a liquid into a vapor, then how is the action of a vaporizer, vaping?  Smoking is the act of smoking tobacco or other substances. So where did “vaping” come from?  Vaping is urban slang for smoking marijuana or tobacco through a vaporizer.  Clearly, the action of inhaling an electronic cigarettes vapor could be classified as smoking and not vaping.

The electronic cigarette IS a smoking alternative.  I use mine just like I would a cigarette and I don’t call it going for a vape, I call it going for a smoke. With everything I have read, it is far safer and easier to be lumped into the tobacco side than the pharm side, neither of which we appear to fit… hence the homeopathic or allopathic idea.

We don’t have to defend ourselves against tobacco cigarettes. We simply put ourselves up in comparison for the differences. We have to present A vs. B and prove why B should be given clearance if A has clearance.  If the fight against smoking is truly health related, then removing one potential health risk (SHS) is definitely a step in the right direction. Many other risks are clearly removed, including second hand smoke from burning tobacco.

As far as taxes, taxes are what they are. They have also been grossly unbalanced by the anti-smoking movement who provides us with articles that “a study was done and voters in Florida have spoken! They would approve a $1 increase on cigarettes.” 1000 people were surveyed by phone. Is this a significant sampling size?  We have also heard that New Mexico would like to raise their tax on cigarettes to $1 a pack ($1.91 tax on a pack of cigarettes).

Did you know that in 2004 the New Mexico Board of Health did a study on their top 10 objectives for health and there was not one mention of smoking, but obesity was a serious issue?  Leave the cigarette tax at $0.91 and raise the tax on fatty foods to $0.91.  Electronic cigarettes have the ability to change the smokers options and actually give a voice to a group of people who are being shuffled into the streets like dogs.

The taxes on cigarettes will always be there. There’s taxes on booze. There’s also a tax on milk, bread and butter.  Eventually, there will be a tax on the electronic cigarette too.

As far as persuading millions to quit… that is not our goal. Our goal is to offer smokers an alternative to smoking tobacco. One thing I have learned from all of my “quits” is that I am a smoker. It runs deep through my family history and well… I like it. So why should I have to be anything but? Quitting the inhalation of burning tobacco was just a bonus for me.

With the rise of legislation that has forced tobacco companies to go to Fire Safe Cigarettes, which in itself is an oxymoron, smokers are reporting problems.  These cigarettes also tend to explode and shoot fireballs into the air and onto clothing and furniture.  Did you know that in 85% of the United States, it is mandated by law that the cigarette companies add even more chemicals to your paper so they burn out faster?  Did you also know that just this week, a school basement caught fire from a janitor smoking and that state sells mandatory FSC’s?

If people can take pills to be thinner and more relaxed and they can drink redbulls and caffeine coffee by the cups full, why can’t they ingest nicotine on their own free will themselves?  There is a strong argument that nicotine, while addictive, is no worse than caffeine and should be considered a lesser drug, like it’s counterpart caffeine.  And I would even go as far to say that caffeine should not be sold to those under 18, just like nicotine.  When children are suffering from RedBull induced ADD/ADHD and then treated with pharmaceutical medications, wouldn’t it be far safer to raise our children on limited caffeine, limiting their risk for an addictive personality later in life?

Either way, the electronic cigarette is here to stay.  No matter what the anti-smoking lobby attempts to do, there is quickly becoming plenty of supporters of electronic smoking. Further testing may put this debate to rest sooner than later.

Ruyan Has Our Content On Ecigarettes.cn

We do a lot of online research around here and it is a good thing we do.

On December 8, 2008, we were forced to post E-Cigarette-Mart.com Steals Our Content.  So needless to say, we keep a pretty good eye on our content.  In a daily research adventure exploring the wonderful world of Ruyan Electronic Cigarettes and what they have to offer, we came across a post that quite interested us:  hey look, our content on ecigarettes.cn.  Hmph.  This looks exactly like our content from our home page. There are a bunch of pages ripped off. Here is another example:
Our Content : http://www.e-cig.org/2008/06/11/now-availableflavors-for-your-e-cigarette/
Our Content on ecigarettes.cn : http://ecigarettes.cn/blog/now-available%E2%80%A6flavors-for-your-e-cigarette.html

If you go to Ruyan’s homepage, you will find a link to visit their blog.  It is within there you will find our content along with quite a bit of other content from what looks like someone who writes for E-Cigarette-Mart.com, who is also E-Cigarette-Global.com AND E-Cigarette-Blog.com.  Now, one of three things is happening here.  Either:

One: The Ruyan Electronic Cigarette blog is run by the same people who run the E-Cigarette-Chain-Gang

Two: The Ruyan blog is pulling content from other sites who are copying our content

Three:  Both One and Two are happening.

Ruyan will eventually see this post and we want them to know that they are to take down the post or give us a followable link to our website as you have with the others you have “borrowed” content from.

While we are impressed that our content is being lifted world-wide for Ruyan’s websites, it is imperative that Ruyan understands that stealing content is not only wrong but can be punished.  So please, give credit where credit is due or remove the content immediately.  E-Cigarette-Mart.com learned their lesson right quick and Ruyan has the ability to avoid what is happening here.

For those who have suffered the plight of stolen content/photos, never fear.  As we always promise information to enhance your knowledge, please feel free to utilize the information on our article How To Deal With Content Stealing Online.  You will find helpful hints on how to get your thief to pay attention to you and do what is right.  And if they don’t, you don’t need a lawyer, just some hard work and determination and voila!

Google E-Cigarette-Mart.com.  See what happens. ;)

Clinical Trials and Testing of the Electronic Cigarette

It is always our intention to keep you as up to date on the testing of the electronic cigarette.  We want to make very clear INSTEAD Electronic Cigarettes does not promote these as a quit smoking device or that electronic cigarettes are 100% healthy.  They still (in most cases) contain nicotine.  It is a smoking alternative and as with anything you choose to put in your body, it is your choice.  We can only tell you what we have found, from our personal experience and the experiences of our customers.  When you compare what is in a tobacco cigarette vs. a nicotine cartridge, the contrast is obvious.

Upon investigation, we have found that three separate laboratories have done testing on mice.  LPD Laboratory Services of Blackburn MicroTech Solutions LTD out of Lancashire, UK, Bontek Compliance Laboratory of Shenzen, China, and Health New Zealand LTD out of Christchurch, New Zealand, have all done testing on mice with positive results.

As far as clinical trials on humans, there has been one officially done and that was through Health New Zealand LTD and Auckland University.  The Clinical trials were done from April of 2008 through August of 2008.  The study was done on 48 smokers to test for overall satisfaction of the product as well as health effects both good and bad.  According to Auckland University’s website, the study has been completed and the data is being analyzed.  As soon as it is available, we will post the findings.

We do find it extremely interesting that Kiwi forum members are noting the e-cig has been approved for use.  Hmmm…. We wonder if someone let the cat out of the bag somewhere on the island down under – under???

Either way, if you are still concerned about the safety of the nicotine cartridges, it is your health so go with your gut feeling.  We can tell you that we, and our customers are very happy with the product.  But as smoking was your choice, so is making the switch.

Electronic Cigarette receives good reviews on “The Doctors”

Well, we have been waiting all day and finally!  “The Doctors” top 10 health products of 2008 appeared and the electronic cigarette received good reviews!  The doctors themselves suggested that the electronic cigarette is not intended for non-smokers, however, for current smokers, this seems to be a very positive option.

Since all of the doctors are non smokers, they had a female smoker, Beverly, who has struggled with smoking for years try the electronic cigarette.  After two days, she had eliminated the use of regular cigarettes all together and said it is satisfying and she would suggest it to others.

A few things that we must correct.  First being the cigarettes per cartridge.  Getting the equivalent of 20 cigarettes out of a cartridge is widely disputed.  Most cartridges we have tested last 7-10 cigarettes tops.  This varies depending on whether you are using the correct strength of nicotine for your needs, as well as if you are huffing and puffing all day long.  Secondly, they are available in the US right now and we have hundreds of happy customers in North America.

As soon as the episode is available via the internet, we will add a link to the episode to this post.

So are you ready to make the change?

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Instead Electronic Cigarettes.  We are looking forward to helping you make a change for 2009!  And if you are interested in other doctors who have given their thumbs up, check out our posts on Family Doctor Takes Notice of Electronic Cigarettes and the recent report on CBC featuring Dr. Carl Phillips of the University of Alberta.

CBC features the Electronic Cigarette

For those of you not familiar with CBC, CBC is owned by the Canadian government and the central news source for Canada.  Being that we have strong ties to Canada, we watch a bit of CBC when we get the chance.

Over the New Year, CBC featured the electronic cigarette and the news report was very well done.  A group of health researchers in Edmonton, Alberta, sat around and tried various forms of the electronic cigarette and electronic cigar.  Their responses were highly comforting.  This is not the first report that has been made that has qualified health officials or researchers saying that yes, the electronic cigarette may be untested, but it is a smoking alternative that people can get on board with.

Dr. Carl Phillips of the University of Alberta, notes that “nicotine itself is not a bad thing… it is similar to coffee drinking… caffeine.  It’s the smoking that’s so bad and kills people and that’s why we are focused on what we call tobacco harm reduction.  Try to allow people who want to use nicotine to do so without dying from inhaling smoke.” Later, he goes on to say that there is “very good scientific research that smokeless tobacco is low risk.”  He does note that there is “little evidence or testing on vaporized nicotine on the lungs” however, with the electronic cigarette the user receives “vaporized nicotine and relatively innate gases as opposed to cigarette smoke which is a devils brew of molecules and poisonous gases.”

With more and more health professionals and researchers finding the electronic cigarette to be promising, the electronic cigarette will become the new smoking alternative of the future and something we are proud to help you transition too.  It may be better for the environment, better for those around you and hopefully, far better for you too. Future testing will tell.

We are so excited that “The Doctors” have given a real look into the electronic cigarette and cannot wait to hear what they all have to say!  We will have an update of the program later tomorrow and if you can set your DVR, set it now so you won’t miss it!

For more information on “The Doctors”, please feel free to visit their website.  If you would like to add comments to our post tomorrow, please feel free to do so!  The electronic cigarette is really a great invention that will hopefully move smoking into a new realm!  We can hardly wait to see what real doctors are willing to say out loud and on the air about this ingenious smoking alternative!

Blue LED Electronic Cigarettes

If you didn’t get your electronic cigarette in your stocking, well we hope to see your order soon!  What a great way to start out the new year with a change in your smoking habit.

After our travels and lots of consumer requests, we have determined that the blue LED light on the electronic cigarette is becoming more popular for smoking the electronic cigarette in public.  As the Instead E-Cigarette looks just like a real cigarette, we are finding that many would prefer the blue light as it makes the appearance slightly different than a real cigarette.  Have you ever seen a real ciggy burn blue?  We haven’t.

Currently, we offer the Instead Electronic Cigarette Sets with blue LED’s only.  If you prefer orange, a spare battery with an orange LED can be purchased separately.

And as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.  We are here and ready to help you!
